About the Firm
A practice shaped by the weight of family decisions.
Mestika Damai was established to offer family law guidance with the patience and care that personal matters deserve.

How we came to practise this way
Mestika Damai was founded in Ipoh with a single conviction: that family law work, done well, should calm rather than agitate. The practice grew from the observation that many clients arriving at a solicitor's office were not ready for litigation — they were uncertain, exhausted, or still hoping that a formal process would not be necessary.
Rather than move people swiftly toward court proceedings, the firm chose a different approach: begin with clarity. Understand the situation fully. Explore what the client actually needs, which is not always what they initially ask for. If proceedings are the right path, prepare for them thoroughly. If another path — mediation, a private arrangement, more time — would serve the family better, say so plainly.
The firm's name, Mestika Damai, reflects this orientation. Mestika — a jewel or precious thing — and damai — peace, calm — speak to what family life, at its best, can hold. The practice works to protect that, even when circumstances have made it difficult.
Today, the firm handles pre-filing consultations, Syariah and civil coordination advisory matters, and long-form family planning engagements for clients across Perak. It does not take on litigation as a first resort, and it does not measure success by the volume of cases filed.
The Team
The people behind the practice
Norizan Rashid
Principal Solicitor
Called to the Malaysian Bar in 2004, Norizan has spent over two decades in family law, with particular attention to matters that cross civil and Syariah jurisdiction. She founded Mestika Damai to build a practice where family clients are not rushed.
Ahmad Hazwan
Associate Solicitor
Ahmad focuses on Syariah-civil coordination matters and has developed strong working relationships with Syariah advisors across Perak. He joined the firm in 2019 and handles a significant portion of the coordination advisory engagements.
Siti Liyana
Client Relations & Documentation
Siti manages the firm's client journey from first enquiry through to the completion of long-form family plans. Her background in social welfare work shapes how she guides clients through what is often a difficult process.

Our Practice
Family law in Ipoh — civil and Syariah matters
Mestika Damai serves families in Ipoh and across Perak who are navigating the civil and Syariah family law landscape in Malaysia. The practice has developed a particular understanding of how family matters are handled differently by these two legal systems, and what that means practically for Muslim families, for spouses holding different legal statuses, and for parents working through parenting arrangements.
The firm's engagement model — beginning with an unhurried pre-filing session before any formal commitment — reflects a view that family law work should serve the family, not the litigation process. Many clients who come to Mestika Damai do not end up in court. Some choose mediation. Some return to discussion with their family. Some decide that a carefully documented private arrangement is what they need.
For those who do proceed through the courts, the firm prepares the matter with care and handles each stage in a manner that keeps the client informed and in control of their own position. The firm's location at No. 51, Jalan Dato Maharajalela places it within easy reach of the Ipoh High Court and the Perak Syariah High Court, and consultation hours are designed to be accessible for working families.
